Winner of the 2000 National Golden Gloves at welterweight and 2001 United States Amateur champion, Thompson was quickly signed by famed boxing manager Cameron Dunkin. Somewhere along the way, Thompsons career hit a snag, with an upset loss to future Contender Season 2 winner Grady Brewer.
